Introduction to Mr. Udi's Critical Speaking Class
On August 26, 2024, during the first meeting of our English speaking class, Mr. Udi introduced the course as a "zero class academic speaking" session. He shared his background and asked each of us to introduce ourselves, mentioning our names, where we’re from, and our expectations for the class. The class mainly focuses on speaking in English, where we are expected to think and speak in English before class. Mr. Udi explained that 70% of the class would be offline, and we would need to engage in critical thinking, analyzing topics, and sharing opinions. He also explained that we would be assessed through presentations, peer reviews, and panel discussions.
Throughout the session, Mr. Udi emphasized the importance of speaking only in English during class. At first, I was nervous about speaking, especially in front of others, but I quickly realized that with practice, I could do it. In his class, there are no midterms or final exams in this class, but we are expected to participate actively and sometimes speak alone in front of the class to earn (bonus) grades. Mr. Udi is kind and supportive, he calling on students to repeat or summarize what was explained (using sandwhich metode), which helps us understand and engage better.
The fisrt assignments he gave is to create a personal blog summarizing each class meeting and make a YouTube account for future video projects.
